Forecast point: Cerritos (23.330, -110.181). Waves = estimated breaking height at the beach. Data: Open-Meteo wave and weather models (CC BY 4.0). Generated using E.U. Copernicus Marine Service Information. Surf at your own risk.

Watch the wind column first. Cerritos is offshore when the wind blows from the east, so hours with an east wind are the ones to aim for. Waves between 0.8 and 2 m are the sweet spot.

The break guide

Surfing Playa Los Cerritos

Cerritos is mostly known for its right-hand point, which breaks over rocky reef and gives easy, mellow rides. On the inside there is a beach break with both lefts and rights. A few more serious waves are close by along the same stretch of coast.

  1. Cerritos point

    Right pointAll levels

This is a right-hander that peels over a rocky reef for up to about 100 m. The waves tend to be on the weaker, easier side, and longboarders love it.

Our setup flags rocks at the north point, so pick your way in and out with care. Sources: yeeew.com

  2. Playa Los Cerritos beach break

    Beach breakLefts & rights

Inside the point, beach peaks give both lefts and rights. When the swell gets big, the shorebreak can turn heavy. Sources: es.surf-forecast.com · yeeew.com

  3. San Pedrito

    Right breakAdvanced

San Pedrito and Los Cerritos are named as two of the best breaks in El Pescadero, and both are rights. San Pedrito is a spot for advanced surfers, with a rocky bottom and strong currents. Sources: en.wikipedia.org

When it works

What Cerritos needs to fire

These are the exact rules behind Kiwi's rating for this spot. Every hour of the forecast is scored on all four, then turned into a rating of 1 to 5 stars.

Swell

South to north-west swells

The beach faces south-west and takes swell from anywhere between south and north-west.

Wind

East wind is offshore

An east wind blows offshore here and grooms the faces.

Tide

Mid tide is best

Our data favours mid tide at Cerritos.

Size

0.8 to 2 metres ideal

The break is at its best between 0.8 and 2 m. Below 0.4 m it is too small, and from about 3 m it gets too big.

Shortcut: look for a 0.8–2 m swell from between south and north-west, an east wind and mid tide.

Seasons

The best months to surf Cerritos

We replayed Kiwi's rating on every day of the last year and counted how often Cerritos's best window reached 4 or 5 stars.

Days with 4 or 5 starsDays with 3 stars or more
Kiwi's current rules replayed on archived Open-Meteo wave and weather data, 2025-10-30 – 2026-10-31 (367 days). One year, so one season of each month. Model data, not observations.

Dec–JanPeak season

About a third of days are good or better, with 35% in December and 32% in January. Around 13% of days in both months reach our top rating, and winter is the best season.

Feb–MarStill worth the trip

Good days drop to 21% in February and 13% in March. The water is around 22°C then, close to its yearly low.

Apr–OctQuiet months

Good days are rare from April to October, at 0–6%. The water warms to about 31°C by September.

NovSeason starts to wake up

Good days climb back to around 7% in November. The water is still warm, at about 27°C.

Need to know

Before you go

Hazards

Keep an eye out for rocks, especially around the north point. The point itself breaks over rocky reef.

On big days the shorebreak gets heavy, so be careful getting in and out. Sources: es.surf-forecast.com · yeeew.com

Getting there

Los Cerritos beach belongs to El Pescadero, a small village at km 64 on Federal Highway 19, on the Pacific side. Todos Santos is about 8 km to the north, and Todos Santos is roughly an hour's drive from Cabo San Lucas. Sources: en.wikipedia.org · en.wikipedia.org

Crowds and etiquette

Expect company in the water, because Cerritos can get very busy when the waves are good. Sources: es.surf-forecast.com · yeeew.com

Water temperature and wetsuit

From July to October the sea sits at about 28–31°C, so boardshorts or a bikini are all you need.

From February to May it drops to around 22°C. In December and January the water is about 24–25°C. Sources: yeeew.com

Which board to bring

Bring a longboard for the smaller days and switch to a shortboard as it gets bigger. The point can be good anywhere from waist-high to double overhead. Sources: yeeew.com

Tide

Sources say Cerritos works on every tide. Our data gives mid tide a slight edge. Sources: es.surf-forecast.com · yeeew.com

How Kiwi rates it

Where the numbers come from

The method

Kiwi takes Open-Meteo's wave and wind models (ECMWF WAM, Météo-France, NOAA GFS and Open-Meteo's best-match blend) at a point about 5 km off Cerritos. There is no buoy correction here yet: these are the models as they come.

Each hour is scored on the four rules above (swell, wind, tide, size). The stars are calibrated on a full year of data for Mexico, so 4 stars at Cerritos is a genuinely good day by that country's standard.

What we can say

1 yearof data behind the stars
4×new forecast runs a day

The season chart and the stars use the same rules, replayed on the archive: a month marked good was good by these rules, not by a surf report.

Without a buoy nearby, the size at the beach is our model's estimate, not a measurement.
