The breaks around Taghazout
Taghazout is a small Berber fishing village on the Atlantic coast, 19 km north of Agadir. Morocco is known for long right-hand point breaks, and Anchor Point is the most famous of them. Surf Sentinel lists six surf spots for the town, with Anchor Point as the main reference spot.
Anchor Point
Right pointIntermediate+This is a quite exposed point with very reliable surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. Groundswells are more common than windswells here, and the best swell direction is from the northwest. It works best around low tide with a wind from the land.
The lineup has rocks and urchins, and getting in and out is tricky. It is popular and can get crowded. Sources: fr.surf-forecast.com

What Taghazout needs to fire
These are the exact rules behind Kiwi's rating for this spot. Every hour of the forecast is scored on all four, then turned into a rating of 1 to 5 stars.
Swell
West to north swells
The point faces west (280°) and takes swell from about 260° to 340°. Swells from outside that window will mostly miss it.
Wind
Easterly wind is offshore
Wind from the east, around 80°, blows offshore at Anchor Point. Last December the wind was offshore about 84% of the time.
Tide
Low to mid tide
Our setup marks low to mid tide as the best window here. Higher tides are less favoured.
Size
Best from 1.2 to 3 m
Anchor Point is at its best with waves from 1.2 to 3.0 m. Below about 0.8 m it is too small, and above about 4.5 m it is too big.
Shortcut: look for a 1.2–3 m swell from the west to north, an easterly wind and a low to mid tide.

Where the numbers come from
The method
Kiwi takes Open-Meteo's wave and wind models (ECMWF WAM, Météo-France, NOAA GFS and Open-Meteo's best-match blend) at a point about 5 km off Taghazout. There is no buoy correction here yet: these are the models as they come.
Each hour is scored on the four rules above (swell, wind, tide, size). The stars are calibrated on a full year of data for Morocco, so 4 stars at Taghazout is a genuinely good day by that country's standard.
What we can say
The season chart and the stars use the same rules, replayed on the archive: a month marked good was good by these rules, not by a surf report.
Without a buoy nearby, the size at the beach is our model's estimate, not a measurement.
